🌱 1. Cramp Bark: My Go-To Tea for Menstrual Pain
Cramp bark (traditionally known in Western herbali
nd spasming.
I personally used it as a tea during my cycle when cramps felt stronger than usual.
✨ Why it’s traditionally researched:
May help relax smooth muscle spasms
Often used for painful menstruation
Traditionally supportive for pelvic tension
From an Ayurvedic perspective, painful cramping can often be linked to Vata imbalance — excessive movement, dryness, and constriction — and warm, soothing herbal teas can help calm that pattern.
🌸 2. Vitex (Chaste Tree Berry) — Supporting Hormonal Rhythm
I explored Vitex (also called Chaste Tree Berry) mainly to support:
Breast tenderness
Hormonal balance
PMS-related discomfort
Vitex is often discussed in herbal research for its influence on the hormonal communication between the brain and reproductive system. Many herbal traditions use it long-term to support cycle regularity and hormonal rhythm rather than as a quick fix.
🌿 In my experience, the goal was not to force change — but to gently support balance over time.
🍂 3. Dong Quai — The Traditional Women’s Herb
Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis) has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Herbalism as a supportive herb for women’s health.
I explored it with the intention of supporting:
Menstrual comfort
Blood flow and circulation
Overall menstrual vitality
In holistic traditions, low menstrual volume is sometimes viewed as a sign of insufficient nourishment or circulation. Herbs like Dong Quai are frequently researched for their warming and moving qualities.
Every body responds differently to herbs because every body has a unique elemental blueprint.

🍂 4. Cinnamon — Digestive & Circulatory Support
Cinnamon was one of my favorite additions because it supports more than just digestion.
Traditionally, cinnamon is researched for:
Warming the body
Supporting circulation
Helping digestion (which can feel sluggish during menstruation)
Bringing comfort when Vata feels high
A warm digestive system often supports a smoother menstrual experience overall — something Ayurveda emphasizes deeply.
🌙 My Personal Approach
Rather than relying on one single herb, I explored a gentle combination that focused on:
Relaxation of cramping (Cramp Bark)
Hormonal rhythm support (Vitex)
Blood movement and nourishment (Dong Quai)
Warmth and digestion (Cinnamon)
The intention was not to suppress symptoms but to support the body’s natural rhythms.

🤍 Final Thoughts
Learning to work with the body instead of against it changed how I experience my cycle. Herbs are not magic but when paired with rest, nourishment, and awareness, they can become beautiful tools for understanding the body more deeply.
If you’re interested in holistic menstrual health, this is an invitation to learn, observe, and listen to your body with curiosity.
